Suspicious Sushi Leads to Salmonella Poisoning

Very recently, Moon Marine USA Corp. of Cupertino, Calif., a leading sushi producer, was compelled to recall over 58,828 pounds of raw yellow fin tuna, as a strong link was established between this product and numerous outbreaks of salmonella poisoning. Yellow fin tuna is a product which is scraped from fish bones, sold to grocery stores and restaurants, used to make sushi as common as spicy tuna roll, and other similar dishes, and one that recently, has transformed into a sometimes life-threatening poison for those who consume it.

So far, at least 116 illnesses across the United States have been reported to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and 12 people have even been hospitalized as a result of consuming this tainted product. The outbreak of illnesses has been focused almost exclusively on the Eastern Seaboard, and Southern portion of the United States.

Seven people in New Jersey, twenty four people in New York, and ten more in Connecticut and Pennsylvania have been affected by the product. Those effected exhibit symptoms common to salmonella poisoning such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. These symptoms usually occur within three days of eating the harmful product, and can be extreme for certain individuals.

This illness is not to be taken lightly: for many it involves severe flu-like symptoms, and for infants, the elderly, and pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems, it can even be life threatening.
