Dangerous Weight-Loss Drug Belviq Pulled From Market
Thousands of people struggling to lose weight were prescribed either Belviq or Belviq XR (lorcserin) since its approval in 2012. Only recently has it been discovered that these prescriptions were potentially dangerous. While thousands of people were attempting to better themselves, Belviq was allegedly setting a deadly trap.
Have you or a loved one been taking Belviq, or Belviq XR to help combat obesity or other weight-related health issues? Have you or your loved one developed cancer, including, but not limited to, pancreatic, colorectal, or lung?
You may be entitled to compensation.
On January 14, 2020, the FDA has requested that Belviq and Belviq XR be withdrawn from the market. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled (a group taking a sugar pill only) clinical trial of more than 12,000 patients, the group taking locaserin was found to be more likely to develop cancer than the group taking a placebo. The locaserin group was found to have several types of different cancers occurring more frequently, especially pancreatic, colon, and lung.
If you or a loved one are prescribed locaserin, the FDA advises that you stop taking lorcaserin immediately and talk to your health care professional about alternate weight-loss medicines and programs. The FDA further advises that you dispose of unused lorcaserin by using a local drug take back location or in your household garbage after removing any personal information from the bottle and mixing the pills in a sealed bag with another substance like ground coffee, cat litter, or dirt.
If you are experiencing any side effects from Belviq, please contact your health care professionals and report the side effect involving locaserin. You may also report your side effects here to better help the FDA track the problem.
