New Brunswick NJ Construction Accident Law Firm Shares Why Accidents Happen

There are many different factors that go into why construction site accidents happen in New Jersey.  One of the most common themes we come across in handling numerous construction injury cases is that contractors often cut corners to bid lower on jobs; and thus, the safety of labor workers is compromised.  In other instances, negligence also plays a role in why construction site accidents happen.  Clark Law Firm P.C. is a New Brunswick NJ construction accident law firm that has years of experience helping injured construction workers get justice for their injuries. Why Do Construction Site Accidents Happen in New Jersey?

We have a scaffolding fall case that we have been working on in which two workers were killed when they were working on the siding of a building.  The scaffolding pole came in contact with a live power line and the consequences were devastating.  Even after this incident happened, the head contractors did nothing the next day to make the construction site safe for the workers.  They failed to contact the utility company to turn the power off. This is an example of how the contractors had complete disregard for the safety of their construction and labor workers.

In another case we handled, it was alleged that the developer ignored the safety rules in certain ways in order to speed up the project.  It is the head general contractor’s job to ensure that every person under him follows OSHA safety rules.  In this case, failure to follow safety rules resulted in an innocent worker being seriously injured.  Clark Law Firm P.C. was able to recover $1.9 Million for this laborer who fell from a job-made box on a construction site. Please note: each case has a unique set of circumstances and one settlement is not indicative of future results.

Other Factors That May Cause Construction Site Accidents in New Brunswick NJ

Most construction incidents are preventable and generally occur because the party in charge of safety is negligent. Some factors to consider if a party is negligent are:

Being Forced to Work in Adverse Weather Conditions: The safety of a construction site and workers can be compromised in stormy weather or high winds.  Ice, sleet, and snow can also contribute to dangerous situations.

Being Injured by Falling Objects Which Were Improperly Secured:  With heavy equipment being hauled up and down with machinery, it is also possible that a piece of construction material may strike a worker if it was not secured properly.

Being Forced to Utilize Defective or Unsafe Equipment: Construction site equipment must also be inspected on a regular basis.  If it does not pass inspections, it should not be utilized.  Furthermore, if the equipment is outdated and needs to be replaced, it should be up to construction industry standards and workers should not be forced to use defective or unsafe equipment.

It is important to note that no factor is uncontrollable on a job site.

The above are just a few examples of things that may contribute to construction site accidents in Middlesex, Essex, and Monmouth Counties.
