Xarelto Attorney NJ

Xarelto Lawsuit Information

Xarelto, also known as rivaroxaban, is a relatively new blood thinning drug or anticoagulant. It was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July 2011. Xarelto is manufactured in the United States by Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Xarelto was designed and is heavily promoted as an alternative to Coumadin (Warfarin). It does not require the physician to constantly monitor the patient’s blood levels as is required when a patient is on Coumadin. Therefore, many patients may experience bleeding but may not be aware of it until it is too late. Unlike Coumadin, there is no reversal agent or antidote for Xarelto, making it an extremely dangerous drug.

What is Xarelto?

Xarelto is prescribed to treat atrial fibrillation and to reduce the risk of dangerous blood clots including stroke, pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. Patients who take Xarelto may face an increased risk of stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. In addition this blood thinning medication leads to an increased risk of bleeding related injuries such as gastrointestinal bleeding, severe hemorrhaging and possibly death.

Xarelto Class Action Lawsuit

Many patients have suffered bleeding related injuries, pulmonary embolisms, stroke, deep vein thrombosis and heart attacks while being prescribed Xarelto. These patients were not advised to monitor their blood levels and as a result suffered these severe injuries and even death. This has led patients to file lawsuits against the manufacturers of Xarelto, Bayer Health Care Pharmaceuticals, Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Johnson & Johnson, for their failure to remove the drug from the market and their failure to adequately warn patients and physicians about the increased risk of irreversible, uncontrollable internal bleeding. Injuries sustained from the use of Xarelto can require substantial hospitalization, long term health care costs, which may or may not be fully covered by insurance, missed time from work and substantial hardship on one’s everyday life. In addition there are some unfortunate Xarelto cases where a loved one has died. In these cases the patient’s surviving family member can seek to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost income, lost companionship and other damages. The manufacturers must be held accountable for their actions in causing severe injuries and death to patients who looked to them for a medication to make their lives better not worse.
